521 is not really a Plantronics product. Its a knot-off made from some other company. After 6-7 feet from my phone I have static. Suppose to go up to 30'.
The Voyager 521 may not be as slim as some other units but I can count on it staying with me even riding my bike on bumpy roads. My wife has a slimmer Motorola ear piece but when I put it on it would fly off my ear if I turned my head quickly. My wife liked mine soo much that she got one also. For me the Voyager 521 is simply great. I especially like how it fits in my ear and I can move my head quickly from side to side and not loose the ear piece.
Otherwise, I'm satisfied. Was looking for a high quality, low cost wireless headset to be used with my Palm Centro. This was the answer, although, like so many others, you can't get very far away from your phone or it starts crackling like a campfire.
It gets the best reception when the phone is tucked into a shirt or jacket pocket or bra strap, but it has a decent range, even when the phone is in the next room. This device is easy to use. Once the battery reaches half charge, people complain that they have trouble hearing me, but other than that no one can tell if I'm using the bluetooth. The ear piece is very comfortable, and it stays in well. You have to adjust it initially to fit it in the ear, but once you do, it stays in, even during a lot of vigorous activity.
but for the person on the receiving side, poor quality. i had to wear the headset with my phone close by or else i would hear crackling sounds.maybe i'll wait until bluetooth advances more in quality. what can i say. too much background noise, and horrible when driving, or outside in the wind. for now i'll just hold off. read plenty of good reviews, so i made my choice, and ordered my headset. works great when i am inside and it is quiet.
